Regional Director – Australia

Brisbane, QLD, Australia

Lead. Build. Make an Impact.

Founded by internationally respected technical leaders with decades of experience delivering some of the mining industry’s most challenging projects, Equilibrium is a specialist consultancy providing integrated geotechnical, structural geology and hydrogeology solutions globally.

Our reputation is built on technical excellence, practical solutions and trusted client partnerships. As a growing consultancy, we offer experienced professionals the opportunity to influence strategy, shape capability and make a meaningful impact on clients, projects and the future of the business.

We are now seeking an exceptional leader to build and lead the next phase of Equilibrium’s Australian growth. Candidates will be considered within the rock mechanics, mine waste, structural geology, or surface water discipline areas. This is not a role focused on maintaining an established operation — it is an opportunity to create, influence and shape the future of a specialist consultancy in one of the world’s most important mining markets.

The Opportunity

As Regional Director, Australia, you will be a key member of the global leadership team, responsible for establishing Equilibrium as a recognized specialist consultancy in the Australian mining market.

This role combines business leadership, strategic growth, client development, technical leadership and team building. You will have the autonomy and support to develop opportunities, strengthen relationships and build the capability required for long-term success.

Working directly with Equilibrium’s internationally recognized technical leaders, you will have the rare opportunity to combine the freedom and influence of an entrepreneurial environment with the technical depth and global capability of an established specialist consultancy.

Why Join Equilibrium?

Equilibrium is entering an exciting phase of growth, and this role represents an opportunity to help define the future of the company.

At Equilibrium, you will have the opportunity to influence the direction of a specialist consultancy where experienced people are trusted to lead, decisions are made close to the work, and your contribution is visible.

Unlike larger organisations where strategic decisions can be several layers removed from clients and technical delivery, Equilibrium provides the opportunity to directly influence strategy, market direction, technical capability and business growth.

You will have:

  • The opportunity to build and shape Equilibrium’s Australian presence from its current foundation.
  • A direct voice in decisions that shape strategy, capability, culture and growth.
  • The support of experienced technical leaders with a strong international reputation.
  • The autonomy to make decisions and create meaningful change.
  • The opportunity to develop talented people and build a team you are proud of.
  • The ability to combine technical excellence with meaningful commercial impact.
  • The opportunity to collaborate with our global team of experts on technically challenging international projects.
  • The opportunity to build something you can look back on with pride – the clients, team, capability and culture that define Equilibrium’s future in Australia.

What You’ll Do:

Lead and Grow the Australian Business

  • Lead Equilibrium’s Australian growth strategy, market expansion and positioning.
  • Partner with global leadership to align strategy, resources and opportunities.
  • Oversee Australian operations and capability to support sustainable growth.

Build Client Relationships and Market Presence

  • Build trusted relationships with mining leaders and key industry stakeholders across Australia.
  • Lead strategic pursuits, client engagement, proposals and commercial opportunities.
  • Represent Equilibrium across the mining, engineering and professional communities.
  • Identify opportunities where Equilibrium’s specialist capability can create value.

Provide Technical Leadership

  • Maintain technical involvement across complex projects.
  • Champion technical excellence, innovation and quality.
  • Collaborate with Equilibrium’s global technical specialists.
  • Mentor engineers and support the development of future technical leaders.
  • Strengthen Equilibrium’s technical reputation in the Australian market.

Build a High-Performing Team

  • Attract, develop and retain exceptional technical professionals.
  • Build the Australian team and capability required for long-term growth.
  • Foster a collaborative culture where people can do their best work.
  • Support career development and succession planning.

You will likely bring:

  • Relevant degree and 15+ years’ experience in geotechnical engineering, mine waste, hydrogeology, structural geology or surface water discipline areas.
  • A strong technical reputation within the Australian mining industry.
  • Established relationships with mining clients, industry stakeholders and professional networks.

Location:

Equilibrium’s Australian office is based in South Brisbane. For the right candidate, we are open to considering flexible arrangements, including remote-based candidates in other Australian locations, with regular travel to Brisbane to collaborate with the broader team and global leadership.
